The wedding

So let's see, I am in the middle of my summer vacation, and this summer I had visited Varanasi and Delhi. To join into the celebrations one of my cousin brother's wedding and it really turned out great in spite of the scorching heat. As a big fat Indian wedding, the celebrations started a week earlier before the wedding .Starting off with the different religious customs and different kinds of puja which was then followed with a two night sangeet . And now for all of you who don't know what sangeet is ,sangeet is a celebration where all the members of the family celebrate the upcoming wedding with lots of singing and dancing ,followed by all the other kinds of rituals for the wedding .

After all the celebrations and the preparations, on the final day of the wedding,  our family representing the  bridegroom  have a custom of going to the venue of the wedding by dancing and singing, but this doesn't mean that people cover miles and miles of distance by dancing and singing, the organizers choose a suitable place from where the venue is at a small distance and that's where the people began to enjoy themselves  and cover the distance by dancing and singing , this is known as the baart and the people who participate in it are known as the baraatis. I am damn sure of it that the baraatis really showed their best moves and were drenched in sweat after reaching the venue including me.

The venue is the place where the bride’s family welcome the baraatis with flowers and loads of love and have a small puja known as the dvar puja where the groom is the center of attraction as the puja is done for the groom’s sake from the bride’s side. Then we have a ritual called the jaymal . It is a ritual where the bride comes on to the stage with a garland in her hand and places it around the grooms neck and then the groom does the  same to the bride. Then there’s a photo session where the all guest go on to the stage and have a snap with couple and have a dinner after it. As a North Indian wedding takes place all throughout the night, so most of the guest returned back to their houses after the dinner. The couple then had some food and then changed into much simpler clothes and then the various kinds of pujas take place along with the different kinds of family tradition.

The wedding ended with the sāt phéré, these are seven rounds taken around the sacred fire with every round depicting a vow, and then all the people of the family blessed the couple to live a long and prosperous life. And that's where the wedding ends in spite of it the celebrations don't end, as the celebrations went all the way to Delhi for a reception and that's where the celebration ended on a very high note where the people enjoyed it to the fullest and rocked the dance floor.

The very next day the families had a few get together and left for their homes with a wide smile across their faces. I really enjoyed it for sure and it was really great to meet my cousins after years, I am gonna remember this for sure all throughout my life for all the fun we had with family and cousins and all the epic moments we all shared together. And most of all I am gonna remember this for one of the biggest reasons, for hosting such a fantastic wedding with all their might and warmth.
